Vince Lussa developed an interest in artistic nude photography during high school, inspired by a book of nude images by André de Dienes. Unfortunately, none of his earliest photographs have survived. He initially enrolled at university but soon left to pursue photography full-time.
In post-war communist Hungary, Lussa encountered serious obstacles, including a temporary professional ban. Despite this, he represented Hungary at several international photography exhibitions, notably at the 1958 World Expo in Brussels.
In April 1958, the East German magazine Das Magazin featured one of his artistic nude photographs for the first time, and Lussa quickly became one of its most popular contributors. Between 1964 and 1983, he published multiple volumes of nude photography in the United Kingdom and France. His first solo exhibition took place in Budapest in 1978. Today, Vince Lussa is recognized as one of Hungary’s most significant photographers. In September 2005, the National Library honored his work with a comprehensive retrospective exhibition.
