A very RARE and beautiful and interesting travel book... written by J. A. St. John..."Egypt and Nubia, their scenery and people. : Being incidents of history and travel, from the best and most recent authorities, including J.L. Burckhardt and Lord Lindsay. Illustrated with one hundred and twenty-five wood engravings."
This is an abridged version of his 1834 book, EGYPT AND MOHAMMED ALI, which described his journey made in 1832 to north Africa. This is handsomely embellished with 125 wood engravings. St. John traveled mostly by foot, and, as a journalist, recorded what he saw and experienced in great detail. St. John's first published work occurred when he was thirteen.
Book in good condition. Externally leather with light wear around edges and corners, shelfwear. Inside new endpapers, light stains but overall clean and complete. Beautifully illustrated.
