For members of the militia, a badge made of non-ferrous metal with the Hanau swan and the inscription “Hanauer Bürgerwehr 1919” was issued from June. This signet should be worn on the left side of the chest; former soldiers wore it on their caps instead of the imperial cockade. In the militaria market, the badge is often incorrectly attributed to the “Hanauer Freikorps”, which cannot be true since Hanau did not have its own Freikorps and Freikorps were recruited exclusively from discharged soldiers. Unfortunately, the manufacturer of the badge has not yet been clarified. It was probably the same company that produced the much larger SIPO badge in a similar version.
