This is a traditional Aizu lacquerware tray handcrafted in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Fukushima, Japan — one of Japan’s three major lacquer-producing regions.
Hand-painted honkin maki-e (pure gold powder lacquer art)
Material: Natural lacquer base, decorated with genuine gold powder and mother-of-pearl inlay at the flower center, showing gentle iridescent luster under light.
Pattern: Tessen-ka (clematis) motif, symbolizing purity, nobility, peace and lasting happiness in Japanese culture.
Maker: Produced by Suzutake Co., Ltd., a well-established lacquer workshop founded in 1943, signed by the lacquer artist Shumpo.
