Kerámia, aranylevél Edény - 13 cm - Rhyton replikája
This lot presents a gilded ceramic reproduction after an ancient golden rhyton portraying the head of a ram. A rhyton (plural: rhyta or rhytons) is an ancient, horn-shaped drinking and pouring vessel, often shaped like an animal's head or horn and sometimes terminating at the base in the shape of an animal's body or a human face. Drinking from a rhyton required a fair amount of skill, making it a performative act popular among the elite in ancient Persia, Greece and the wider Mediterranean and Eurasian worlds. Made from various materials, such as silver, gold, earhenware, stone (ref pic 2), these cups were frequently used in elaborate ancient banquets and religious ceremonies such as libations, where wine or oil was poured as an offering to the gods. This modern replica means to resemble a vessel crafted from gold and it was modeled from clay, wich was fired in a kiln by an experienced artist. As final step its surface was gilded with 24k gold leaf protected by matte laquer. The item is in excellent condition, showing some minor irregularities from creation process.
