Beautiful, mid-century (1960s) set of six cups, six saucers and six plates from the former Soviet Union’s world renowned LOMONOSOV IMPERIAL PORCELAIN FACTORY in Leningrad, USSR (now Saint-Petersburg, Russia). These are from the ‘Bindweed/Winding Twig’ collection designed by NINA SLAVINA, a leading Soviet sculptor and porcelain painter. The set is brightly coloured in cobalt blue and white, and with 22-karat gold rims and detailing throughout. The pieces are luminous as they are highly-glazed and made of the finest materials — hardpaste porcelain and bone china — which make for exceptional strength and durability. CONDITION: Very fine vintage condition, with no cracks, chips, crazing, or repairs. Some very minor signs of age and wear. MEASUREMENTS: The cups measure 7.5 cm diameter and 5.5 cm high; the saucers are 11.2 cm in diameter; and the plates have a diameter of 15.2 cm. MARKS: All of the pieces are stamped with the Lomonosov Imperial Porcelain Factory maker’s mark, along with MADE IN USSR. SHIPPING: The pieces will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking code. NINA PAVLOVNA SLAVINA (1928-2000) was a talented sculptor and painter born into a family of artists and raised in Leningrad. After studying at the Leningrad Higher Art and Industrial School, she worked for more than 30 years at the Lomonosov Imperial Porcelain Factory — first as an artist and eventually as chief artist. She excelled both as a form sculptor and a painting artist, showcasing her talent by creating elegant, delicate and intricate designs.Slavina’s artistic work has been featured in exhibitions, museums and galleries in the USSR and around the world, earning her multiple medals and awards, as well as high international praise. Her vintage pieces remain in demand to this day, and currently many artists at the Lomonosov Imperial Porcelain Factory continue to paint her designs on new porcelain pieces that have the same molded forms she developed over her career. The LOMONOSOV IMPERIAL PORCELAIN FACTORY is a producer of hand-painted ceramics in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Established in 1744 by Dmitry Ivanovich Vinogradov, it was the first porcelain factory in Russia, it was supported by the Russian tsars since Empress Elizabeth, daughter of Peter the Great, ‘to serve native trade and native art’. The factory produced wares exclusively for the ruling Romanov family and the Russian Imperial Court and remains in business to this day. Its pieces are highly sought after by collectors and exhibited in the world’s leading museums and galleries around the world.
