Eugenios Spatharis (1924-2009) was the great master of Greek shadow theatre, son of the great puppeteer Sotiris Spatharis. Starting during the years of the Occupation, he continued to give countless performances throughout his life in Greece and abroad.Evgenios Spatharis contributed decisively to ensuring that shadow theater is loved by young and old and is recognized as an excellent art form that offers both entertainment and education.Thanks to his recordings and subsequent television broadcasts, his works reached every Greek family and raised generations of children, helping to preserve the genre until today's era of modern media.Spatharis enriched the traditional repertoire with new comic, historical and mythological themes and adapted ancient tragedies and comedies, the Odyssey and Erotokritos. He was a multifaceted talent: an important folk painter, but also a set designer, costume designer and director in theatrical adaptations of Karagiozis.The spiritual heritage of the Spatharis is preserved and continued by the Spathareion Museum, founded by Eugenios in Marousi.
