Dánia - Európa, Svédország, Németország, Balti-tenger; Frederik de Wit after Anders Bure - Dania Regnum (Kingdom of Denmark) - 1681-1700

DECORATIVE MAP OF KINGDOM OF DENMARK, and parts of SWEDEN, GERMANY, BALTIC SEA, NORDIC COUNTRIES by Frederik de Wit (1629-1706), a prominent Dutch geographer and publisher in Amsterdam where he worked as printer and publisher. This map was printed in Amsterdam around 1689 or after, because it has the writing "Cum Privilegio", a privilege obtained by the cartographer on that date from the Dutch States General, as shown in the first photo. PLEASE NOTE: the buyer will also receive a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). This is a stunning map, is richly detailed, showing various provinces, cities, fjords, lakes, rivers, islands, decorative cartouche, measurement scale, and the spectacular landscape of the Nordic Countries. Original copper engraving, beautiful colours, very good condition, with original margins, no particular cuts or defects to report, normal small imperfections due to time, laid paper with chain lines, please see the photo. To complete the documentation, the photo of the title of the work is also published with the name of the artists who created the prints. Text in latin. This map is from the book “Atlas Sive Descriptio Terrarum Orbis" (Atlas or Description of the World's Lands), references; Koeman Wit 18; Phillips 549; World Cat OCLC n°125415452. Frederik de Wit and other cartographers like Willem Blaeu for the creation of this map and of the Scandinavian nations, took as reference the maps of the cartographer Anders Bure or Andreas Bureus (1571-1646), a Swedish cartographer, considered the "father of Swedish cartography". He worked in the royal chancery and in 1603 was commissioned to produce a map of the Nordic countries by the future King Charles IX of Sweden. He produced a first map, covering the northern parts of Sweden, in 1611; and has been called the first real map of Sweden. It was followed by a more comprehensive map of Scandinavia in 1626, which would become a model for mapmakers for generations. In 1628, he became de facto the first head of Lantmäteriet, the Swedish Mapping, Cadastral, and Land Registration Authority. TITLE/DESCRIPTION: "Dania Regnum In quo sunt Ducatus Holsatia et Slesvicum Insulae Danicae et Provinciae Iutia, Scania, Blekingia et Hallandia" (Denmark, the Kingdom in which are the Duchy of Holstein and Schleswig, the Danish Islands and the Provinces of Jutland, Scania, Blekinge and Halland). Fine example of Frederik de Wit map after original charts of Anders Bure with decorative cartouches, ship, rivers, coat of arms, major cities and printed in 1689 or after. Sheet size: height 510 x width 620 mm (20.1 by 24.5 inches). Laid paper with chain lines, centre fold as published, original margins, small restoration on the edge of the map at the bottom, on the back remains of the original binding. The map is in very good condition with beautiful colours, images and text intact, normal small imperfections due to time as per photo. SHIPPING: via UPS, DHL, National Postal Services, protected, INSURED and fully tracked package. Estimated time for Europe 3-5 working days. Shipping within one working day, you can combine shipping if you purchases several items from us, saving money and time.
