There are hints of subtle peat smoke, like toasted marshmallows by a campfire. Palate: Initially zesty with citrus notes of lemon cheesecake and an oiliness typical of a Campbeltown whisky. Peat smoke, leather bound books and peppery, spicy notes develop over time, along with sweet sticky toffee pudding. Finish: The peat smoke carries through to the finish in campfire embers, with sweet hints of pecan pie and butterscotch. The Kilkerran Heavily Peated Whisky 2023 Batch 9 59.2% has been matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, adding a fruity, sweet character alongside its savoury peat centre. There are aromas of freshly baked shortbread, coconut and smoked green banana peels on the nose, leading to notes of digestive biscuits, gooseberries and bracing peat smoke on the palate.
