Campo del Cielo is an extensive area located in Argentina in the Chaco Austral division. The camp is located on the border of the provinces of Chaco and Santiago del Estero, about 800 km northwest of Buenos Aires. According to studies carried out, approximately 4000 years ago the area was hit by a meteor shower due to the disintegration of a large meteorite weighing approximately 840,000 kg which exploded in contact with the atmosphere. The impact of the fragments with the earth's surface led to the formation of the craters currently present and to the dispersion, in the area surrounding the impact, of a large quantity of metal fragments, which can still be found in the area today.
