Fake Reportage by Nobuyoshi Araki is a collection of photographs by one of Japan's leading photographers, Nobuyoshi Araki. The book is a compilation of his serialisations in the culture magazine Weekend Super, which was created by Akira Suei, who was also the editor and book designer of the book.In the late 70s and 80s, Araki worked with Suei to publish serialisations in magazines and photo books, and Araki later recalled in his book Genius and Death (2013) in which he recalls, ‘My 80s are like Suei made them’. The book begins on 29 April, Emperor Showa's birthday, when he goes on a public visit to the Imperial Palace, ‘Yes! Emperor's Birthday’, “Sad Woman Aki Yashiro Aki”, a report on Aki Yashiro, “Seawater Lust”, a trip to the beach in summer, “Tokyo Castle Tour”, a visit to a luxurious love hotel, and a work shown in “Japan: A Self-Portrait” in New York in 1979, when the series was serialised. Themes such as ‘Japan's Shame Room’, a reference to Araki's workroom, are documented in photographs and text, based on themes that must have been planned in line with Araki's interests.
