The limited series not only expresses the full potential of Appleton, but also the passion of two living legends of the rum world: Joy Spence, Appleton's Master Blender and the first woman to ever hold this position in the spirits industry, and the renowned connoisseur Luca Gargano. Together they selected three excellent rums that have been causing heart palpitations for rum lovers since the announcement of the series. As the first of its kind in the history of the distillery, the Hearts Collection consists of single Mark Rums distilled 100 percent in Pot Stills. Distilled in 1994, 1995 and 1999, the rums of the exclusive series were given generous ripening times in the tropical climate of the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. After 21 to 26 years of maturity, twelve barrels of the same marque were blended together to form the Appleton Hearts Collection. Two of the three Marques are identical - which exactly, Joy Spence's secret remains. Demanding connoisseurs will find all the available details about the bottlings limited to 3,000 bottles each on the elegantly embossed label. Included: The content of so-called Congeners (German "Kongenere"). These are components such as esters or aldehydes that are formed in addition to alcohol during fermentation - and contribute significantly to the aroma of, for example, rum. With a very high Congeners content of 1184 g/100 LAA (= grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol) in rum from 1994, 1440 g/100 LAA in the 1995 bottling and 855 g/100 LAA in the 1999 vintage, the Appleton Hearts Collection promises highly aromatic moments of pleasure.
