"Hirusagari 昼下がり B" (Early Afternoon) - Limited 159/200 - Large Work - Norikane Hiroto 乗兼広人 (b1949) - Giappone
A gentle, lovely piece.
Rural landscape viewed through a Shoji window. An old thatched-roof house, sprawling fields, and distant mountains... And the parent cat and the kitten cuddled by the window, quietly gazing out at the outside world, are a striking sight.
This work showcases Norikane's delicate copperplate engraving technique. Warmth resides in each delicate line. Though monotone, the soft use of light and shadow gently envelops the relaxed atmosphere of a early afternoon.

Hiroto Norikane employs etching and aquatint techniques to craft intricately detailed prints. His works are characterized by subdued colors, such as black and white, shades of brown, or a minimalist palette of one or two colors. His artistry reflects the tranquility of the Japanese landscape.
Norikane says that like printmaking, travel is an important part of his life. He creates works that express the emotions he encounters on his aimless travels.
Norikane has attempted printmaking with a wide range of themes, including the "Blowfish Series" "Cat Series" "Fish Series" "Folk House Series" and "Tree Series". In 2024, he had been working on printmaking for 55 years. He says that he is finally beginning to see his own way, and printmaking, like a journey, has no end.
