Side Profile of a Beauty (側顔美人,yokogao bijin) - Takehisa Yumeji (竹久夢二,1884-1934) - Giappone (Senza prezzo di riserva)

Work Title: Side Profile of a Beauty (側顔美人,yokogao bijin) Artist: Takehisa Yumeji (竹久夢二,1884-1934) Technique: Woodblock Print Artist’s Seal on Print: Present Handwritten Pencil Edition Number: 14/50 Artwork Dimensions: 35.7 × 26 cm (14.06 × 10.24 in) Frame Dimensions: 59 × 47.8 cm (23.23 × 18.82 in) Paper Material: Washi (和紙) This exquisite woodblock print was created by Japanese artist Takehisa Yumeji around the 1910s–1920s, embodying his iconic Yumeji-style bijin-ga (美人画,beautiful woman painting) aesthetic. Characterized by delicate outlines, round, limpid eyes and downcast brows, the figure is adorned with a neat coiffure pinned with an ornamental hairpin and a blue-and-white patterned kimono. It is a quintessential example of the Yumeji-style beauty—exuding an air of melancholy and fragile grace, and standing as a representative work of the romantic and sentimental aesthetics of the Taishō era (大正時代). Employing a minimalist color palette of black, white and blue tones, the print features soft yet poetic lines that blend Eastern traditional artistry with modern lyrical expression. The lower left corner of the artwork bears the artist’s seal and the limited-edition number 126/250, indicating it is one of only 126 pieces produced. This piece comes with a wooden frame and an acrylic panel. The frame shows signs of wear including chips, scuffs and paint peeling. Due to the passage of time, the print’s washi paper exhibits traces of oxidation and yellowing. Overall, however, the work is in good condition. About the Artist Takehisa Yumeji was an iconic artist of Japanese Taishō Romanticism, hailed as the "Wandering Lyric Painter" (漂泊の抒情画家). His bijin-ga works fused the traditions of ukiyo-e with Western painting techniques, exerting a profound influence on Japanese aesthetic sensibilities—serving as one of the origins of Japan’s kawaii (可愛い) culture and shōjo manga (少女漫画,girls’ comics). - The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings). - The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable). - This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
