Mobilgirgi - Tarcisio Colzani - Credenza - Marengo - Noce

Mobilgirgi, “Marengo” Sideboard in Solid Walnut, Italy, 1970s (Exceptional finish; fully presentable on all sides) A remarkably refined sideboard from the sought-after Marengo series designed by Tarcisio Colzani for Mobilgirgi, crafted in the 1970s and executed in solid walnut with an unusually meticulous, almost architectural hand. This model represents one of the manufacturer’s most elevated interpretations of Italian post-war cabinetmaking: severe yet warm, essential yet profoundly material. The structure is defined by broad vertical staves of walnut, arranged in a rhythmic sequence that reveals the natural alternation of tones within the timber — a quiet, almost meditative cadence. The top is generously profiled, with a soft radius along the perimeter that tempers the sideboard’s disciplined geometry. A detail of particular note — and one that firmly positions this piece above standard production — is the back panel, finished with the same care, joinery, and walnut selection as the façade. The sideboard is therefore fully finished on all sides, allowing it to stand freely in a room, act as a spatial divider, or anchor a large interior without the need for a wall. This level of craftsmanship is characteristic of Mobilgirgi’s best years, when the firm collaborated with eminent designers and produced small-batch furniture for a discerning clientele. Internally, the piece offers generous storage behind four full-height doors, maintaining the external purity of line. Hinges and structural elements are discreetly recessed, ensuring that nothing interrupts the uninterrupted flow of wood grain across the front. Mobilgirgi — The Maker Founded in the Brianza district, Mobilgirgi emerged in the post-war decades as one of Italy’s most respected artisan-industrial manufacturers, praised for its impeccable workmanship and sophisticated joinery. The “Sapporo” collection stands among its most emblematic lines: a fusion of Nordic restraint, Japanese clarity, and Italian mastery of wood. Pieces from this series are increasingly sought after on the international market for their durability, purity of design, and unmistakable material presence. Condition Presented in excellent overall condition, the walnut displaying a rich, even patina; the finish to all sides — including the back — remains one of its most distinctive and desirable attributes.
