Original woodblock print triptych - Kojima Shōgetsu 小島勝月 (active around 1870-1904) - "Azuma nishiki Toshogu sanbyaku nen matsuri" 東錦東照宮三百年祭 (Eastern Brocade: Three Hundred Year Celebration of the Toshogu) - Japan - 1889 (Meiji 22) Rare triptych by Kojima Shōgetsu 小島勝月 (active around 1870–1904), last name is Kojima, first name Katsumi, he started his activities around 1888 (Meiji 21), he mainly made sashi-e (illustrations of newspapers), prints related to the constitution, Chinese-Japanese war and industrial exhibitions.Probably issued in 1889 (Meiji 22) by Tetsujiro Asaga 浅賀鉄次郎 (???)This probably is the "Nikko Toshogu Shrine" dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate. During the Edo period, the Tokugawa shogunate performed stately processions from Edo to the Nikkō Tōshō-gū along the Nikkō Kaidō. The shrine's annual spring and fall festivals mimic these occasions and are known as 'processions of a thousand warriors'. Wonderful print quality with a beautiful register (the correct adjustment of the colour blocks to the mother block). Beautiful prints, with a majestic scene rendered with a talent for drawing! Please refer to the provided photographs for a better understanding of the item´s condition.
