Medal "For the Spanish Campaign 1936-1939" for a participant who took direct part in hostilities (combatant). Second Spanish Republic (1931-1939). Period of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).
The period of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).
The medal was established by the 1st Government of Spain, headed by General Francisco Franco (caudillo; 1936-1975), by decree No. 192 of January 26, 1937. The medal was awarded to members of the Spanish Phalanx, the German Condor Legion, and the Italian Volunteer Corps in the fight against the Spanish Republican troops in the period 1936-1939.

The total number of copies issued for the award was 48,000 for participants who took direct part in the hostilities (combatants) and 2,000 for participants who did not take direct part in the hostilities (non-combatants). The awards differed in the color of the ribbons (for combatants the edges of the ribbon were black, for non-combatants - green).
Description of the award: round, with a fastening eye, an intermediate ring and a ribbon with a bar and a pin.
Obverse: an image of a Spanish lion (representing the Spanish Falangists) clutching in its claws a defeated dragon, on whose wings are depicted a crossed hammer and sickle (representing the Republicans and a symbol of communism), against the background of two crossed swords (representing the Spanish Order of Saint Ferdinand) and the sun with diverging rays.
At 9-12 o'clock, the date is inscribed in Spanish 17 JVLIO 1936 (Russian translation; July 17, 1936), marking the date of the beginning of the armed uprising of the "Spanish Falange" against the Republicans. At five o'clock, the manufacturer's production marking EGAÑA (Russian translation; Egaña). The frame around the circumference of the composition consists of laurel and oak leaves of the victorious heroes.
Reverse: an image of the Golden Eagle of San Juan with outstretched wings and clutching the Spanish national heraldic shield in its claws. At the bottom of the medal is an image of the emblem of the Spanish Falangists - five arrows tied in a bunch and a Spanish helmet M26 (model 1926). The inscription around the rim in Spanish ARRIBA ESPAÑA (Russian translation; SPAIN FORWARD), GENESSMO. FRANCO VICTOR - UNA GRANDE, LIBRE IMPERIAL M. HISP. GLOR (FRANCO THE VICTOR. UNITED GREAT AND FREE), GENESSMO FRANCO, VR (full text; VICTORIA), UNA GRANDE LIBRE IMPERIAL (Russian translation; FRANCO THE VICTOR, VICTORY, GREAT FREE EMPIRE), then abbreviations in Latin ML.HSP.GLOR ( Russian translation; GREAT GLORY OF SPAIN).
Ribbon: moire, consists of five vertical stripes of black, red and yellow (the last two colors represent the colors of the national flag of Spain). The ribbon colors are intended for awarding a direct participant in military operations (ribbon edges are black). The fastener consists of a slotted plate and a pin.
