SIGNED; Graciela Iturbide - Asor - 2009

WONDERFUL PHOTOBOOK by Graciela Iturbide, one of the greatest photographers from Latin America ever. Bodly signed with beautiful silver pen by the artist. I GUARANTEE THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE SIGNATURE. COMPLETE WITH THE CD AT THE END OF THE BOOK (FIXED AT THE REAR SIDE OF THE REAR COVER). VERY FRESH CONDITION. "With secrets drawn from her archive, Graciela Iturbide creates a curious world in which the human subjects we encounter in her widely-known portraits are absent. In asor, the human subject is the reader alone, dream borne, on a journey in which all places remain nameless, time cannot be ascertained, and the course is lost to the imagination. Loosely inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Iturbide constructs her intimate and contemporary extension of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale without words, making equal use of the narrative and compositional elements of her photographs to startle her readers with visual riddles and quick shifts of perspective. To accompany a reader along this unlikely journey are six electroacoustic works by composer Manuel Rocha Iturbide. These works, composed over a fifteen year period from 1990 to 2005 from sources taped by Rocha Iturbide during his extensive travels, were selected by the composer in response to his mother’s photographs." (from the publisher) THIS IS AN EXCLUSIVE BEST-OF-PHOTOBOOKS AUCTION - by 5Uhr30.com, Cologne, Germany. Text in English. Condition: Inside new, mint, unread; only opened once for signature. Outside with perfect spine and rear cover; front cover very fresh, but with little trace of use. Overall very fine condition. Great photobook in wonderful fresh condition - beautifully signed in silver by the artist. Graciela Iturbide was born in Mexico City in 1942. She began to study film-making in the late 1960s at the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematograficos. While assisting Manuel Alvarez Bravo in the early 1970s, she studied photography, and soon devoted herself to the art. Traveling to Europe around this time, she met Henri Cartier-Bresson, who became a significant influence on her work. This subtle yet powerful book of photographs blends evocative scenes from the many subcultures of Iturbide's native Mexico with the artist's own deeply personal, and oftentimes Surrealistic, vision. Iturbide's work mixes history, lyricism and portraiture. She deals heartily with the issues of sameness and difference. Sun-cracked earth contrasts with playing children, stark walls with elaborate alters, everyday life with special celebration. These oppositions represent deeper conflicts in the nature of land and body. Although the work is black-and-white, beautifully printed in duotone, the bright red of sacrificial blood, the colorful skirts, and murals seem to appear in full color.
