Small thick octavo, pp xxii, 458, slightly age-toned, very slightly used internally and with a suggestion throughout of slight wrinkling or waving, a closed tear to the margin of pages 7/8 without loss, two internal hinges cracking slightly but no real weakness (see illustrations). Pages 240/241 have age-toning from a book-mark (see illustration). Original green cloth, the corners very slightly worn, the covers with slight fading and blemishes, the spine a little dull and with bubbling to the cloth, the spine pulled at the top and the bottom and with a short tear at the top. With the bookplate of Chichester Gould May (possibly the physician who was later knighted in 1923?), and a short inscription of the first blank page - "C.G. May from J.A.H., July 1883".
