It weighs approximately 17.6 kg, making it quite heavy.
Although this Jizo statue is 101 years old, the carvings of its face, body and characters remain relatively clear.
This is a Jizo statue with a strong presence.
On both sides are the following inscriptions:
「秋光童子」"Akimitsu Doji"
「大正十三年」"Taisho 13"
「九月十四日」"September 14th"
「久保山惣吉」"Kuboyama Sokichi"
Jizo Bodhisattva is often called "Ojizo-san."
Ojizo statues are common sights in traditional Japanese towns.
However, they are rarely seen in modern cities. As cities develop with modernization, Ojizo statues often lose their place and are discarded.
Ojizo statues are not usually widely available, so the one we were able to obtain is an extremely rare one.
This is a very rare Jizo, so don't miss out on this opportunity.
Jizo Bodhisattva is a symbol of mercy in Buddhism and is widely worshiped as a bodhisattva who saves souls suffering in hell in particular. Jizo Bodhisattva is called "Ksitigarbha" in Sanskrit, and its name means "womb of the earth". Jizo Bodhisattva takes a vow until all living beings are freed from suffering, and he plays the role of a bodhisattva who protects the weak, especially children, the dead, travelers, sick people, and pregnant women.
Statues of Jizo Bodhisattva are widely seen in Japan, and are especially familiar as "Ojizo-san". Small red aprons and hats are often placed on the statues, as it is believed that Jizo Bodhisattva protects children. Jizo Bodhisattva is an important object of worship as a being who guides and saves people in the afterlife.
Jizo Bodhisattva is also worshipped as a symbol of salvation from the six realms of hell, known as the Six Jizo. Due to this belief, his statues can be found in cemeteries, along roads, temples, etc., and are the object of widespread worship.
