Location: Gadoufaoua, Téneré Desert, Niger.
Geological formation: Elrhaz Fm
Age: Under the Cretaceous, Aptian/Albian stage (113 million years ago)

Ornithocheirus simus is only known from fragmentary jaw tips. It had a distinctive rounded "keeled" crest on its snout, similar to its relatives. Ornithocheirus had relatively narrow jaw tips compared to the related Coloborhynchus and Tropeognathus, which had prominently expanded tooth rasters, as well as a more developed "keeled" crest compared to Ornithocheirus. Another feature that made Ornithocheirus unique and different from its relatives was that its teeth were usually vertical, rather than in an outward-angled position.
It was formerly thought that Ornithocheirus was one of the largest pterosaurs ever to exist, with a wingspan of possibly 12.2 meters.
