Published 25 years after the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki in 1945, the book begins with the words, ‘Here lies a point of sublimation where resignation and the fierce determination to expose the culprits intertwine,’ and records the harsh daily lives of atomic bomb survivors who were plagued by various symptoms and lived side by side with death, accompanied by their testimonies. These photographs are a crystallisation of realism that captures these facts without letting them fade away and without turning away from reality. At the end of the book, there is a text by Ishizu Ryosuke, a photographer who was the chairman of the West Japan Block of the Tamura and Realism Photography Group.
