There, the unlikely combination of several geological factors made possible the occurrence of a wide variety of finely crystallized mineral species, to such and extent that this deposit set the highest international standards for several species over the second half of the last century. Among these, mimetite is among the greatest classics, as Tsumeb is ranked among the most iconic localities for this species! Here is a nice representative specimen of mimetite from Tsumeb, displaying translucent elongated yellow crystals on dolomitic matrix. Ex coll. Rollet family (Lyon). The Rollet family owned several mines in Madagascar since 1920, prospecting for new deposits, mining and exporting minerals for industrial uses (mainly phlogopite) but also gemstone roughs and collectable specimens. Founder Marc Rollet was a very early mineral dealer in France. The collection features many specimens of historical and systematic interest from Madagascar, as well as a variety of French and international classics from the last century.
