Lovely illustrated copy by Isabella Gifford (Gifford was Welsh-born and seemingly self-taught as a scientist). The book is illustrated with 12 plates by W. Dickes, including, tissue-guarded frontispiece printed in oil colour, 5 further coloured plates, and 6 black and white plates. Published by R. Folthorp, Brighton, 1853. Publisher’s original navy cloth boards, with gilt lettering on spine.
Book Dimensions: 17 x 11 x 3 cm and Number of Pages: 357
Condition
External covers are firm, clean, and in nice shape. Internally; the book is in very good condition. No names or inscriptions. Inner hinges are very good, and pages are tightly held at gutters. Text is fresh, and pages are clean, with light foxing to the margin of some pages. All plates are present and in nice condition (Please see pictures).
