Translated from a Spanish text based upon the first editions of 1605 and 1615 with notes and Preface by Samuel Putnam. Lithographs by José Narro. Volume I[-Volume II]. London: The Folio Society, MCMLXI 2 vols. [Vol.I: [i-ii], iii-xi, [xii], [1-2], 3-441 pp.; Vol.II: [i-iv], v, [vi], [1-2], 3-473 pp.] Coloured frontispiece, illustrated. 25 x 18 cm. Mottled grey cloth boards, blue-green leather spines with gold lettering and decorations, top edges tinted turquoise, slip case. First published New York: Viking Press, 1949, this edition based on the UK version, London: Cassell, 1953, but omits the original introduction, bibliography, and annotations of the Cassell edition. The illustrations first published in a Spanish edition by Editorial Juventud, Barcelona (1958), and comprise (vol.I) a coloured frontispiece and 20 full-page black & white plates, and (vol.II) a coloured frontispiece and 28 full-page black & white plates. The illustrations are listed but uncaptioned, all signed “Narro”. Vol.II has printed Ex Libris label of J.U.Body inside front cover.
