Rare Bronze Sculpture – The Holy Family – Late 16th / Early 17th Century – Beautiful Patina Description An exceptional and rare lead devotional sculpture depicting the Holy Family — Mary, Joseph and the young Christ standing together. A compact yet expressive work of religious art from the late 16th or early 17th century likely south German, created for private devotion or a small oratory. The sculpture shows a beautiful aged patina with traces of original gilt remaining in the recesses. The sculptor captured the graceful movement of the drapery in a remarkably detailed way for such a small object. This is a rare surviving example from the late Renaissance / early Baroque period.
