Rising Sun and Raging Wave with Box - Kitagami Seigyu 北上聖牛 (1891-1970) - Giappone (Senza prezzo di riserva)

北上聖牛 Kitagami Seigyu (1891-1970) Born in Hakodate, Hokkaido, Japan, he lost his left leg at 12. He studied under Takeuchi Seiho in Kyoto. He excelled at flower-and-bird paintings based on sketches, and in his later years, he adopted a Western-style painting. Many of his paintings have been selected for the Bunten and Teiten exhibitions. with signature 'Seigyu' 聖牛 and seal 'Sei' 聖 This striking hanging scroll by Kitagami Seigyu (1891–1970) presents a bold and symbolic composition: the rising sun above a turbulent wave. Rendered in vivid color and dynamic brushwork, the scene evokes both natural energy and cultural identity. In Japanese art, the rising sun (旭) symbolizes vitality, renewal, and national spirit — often associated with beginnings and hope. The raging wave, in contrast, represents nature’s force and the challenges that must be faced. Together, they form a powerful metaphor for resilience and forward momentum. Kitagami Seigyu was active during the early to mid-20th century and known for blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with expressive modern techniques. His works often reflect the dynamic cultural shifts of his time. The scroll is accompanied by a storage box, which aids in preservation and handling. A visually impactful and culturally resonant work, ideal for collectors of modern Japanese painting and symbolic landscapes. 北上聖牛 Kitagami Seigyu (1891-1970) Japanese art kakejiku kakemono wall hanging scroll / Rising Sun and Raging Wave with Box Whole dimensions: 28" W x 57.2" H / 71.2cm x 145.5cm Inside dimensions: 20" W x 18" H / 50.9cm x 45.9cm Material: Silk Technique: Handpainted Roller ends: Bone Weight: 950g including Box Condition Antique items have originally crease, stain, damage, and more.
