A beautiful, large inlaid patinated bronze Art Deco-style vase by Takano Ryôichi 高野良一 (1907-?).
Of elegant globular form supported on a short foot and surmounted by a slightly flared lipped mouth . The shoulder is finely inlaid in silver 高象嵌 (takazôgan) with a narrow band of minuscule beading above an interlocking meander design encircling the collar. The surface displays a refined chocolate-brown patina of rich tone and depth.
The recessed base bears a raised reserve with the signature Shizan 紫山.
Takano Ryôichi 高野良一 (born 1907), art name Shizan 紫山, was a metal artist active in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture 富山県高岡市 — a city renowned for its metalwork tradition. He began his career at the beginning of the Shôwa era and exhibited at several national craft exhibitions, earning multiple awards for his refined inlay techniques.
