Spine redone during the 20th century in shagreen, original red morocco label, the binding has the original full glazed calfskin boards with dentelle frames. All edges red.
Sturdy volume, the spine is in very good condition. Faded, rubbed boards, restored corners. Fresh and clean interior, some foxing on the paper of the text, more pronounced foxing on the paper of the boards.
The author Maurice-Élisabeth de Lavergne de Tressan, also called the Abbé de Tressan was a French writer born in 1748 and who died in 1809.
Son of Louis-Élisabeth de La Vergne de Tressan, he was the vicar of Rouen. He emigrated during the French Revolution and came back to France after 18 Brumaire and took up literature; he was especially close to Abbot Delille.
