Eduard Vogel (7 maart 1829 - februari 1856). De Reiziger in Afrika.

Voor het vinden van een handelsroute in Afrika werd Vogel in 1853 als vervanger van een overleden expeditielid gekozen om voorraden te brengen naar de Heinrich Barth expeditie in Sudan. 
In 1854 en 1855 verkende hij de streken rond Lake Chad.
Op 1 december 1855 verliet hij Kuka in de Nijl vallei en liet zijn aantekeningen en bijzondere collecties achter.
Hij leefde bijna alleen van eieren en schreef alleen met potlood.
De adviseurs van de Sultan in Wadai raden aan hem te vermoorden. Die was daartegen, maar toen Vogel de heilige berg Treya beklom werd hij ten dode toe geslagen met metalen knuppels.

Zeer zeldzaam boek. Op internet slechts één exemplaar aangeboden (€ 250,-).
Boek met slappe kaft in redelijk goede staat.
Rijk geïllustreerd met vele volpagina (sommige licht getint) en kleinere afbeeldingen.
