Complete in 1 bound volume
Edo period, Ansei 4 (1857)
This is an original Edo-period illustrated book titled Asagao Monogatari (The Morning Glory Tale), written by Ryūryū Fūshi (柳々風士) and illustrated by Utagawa Yoshiharu (歌川芳春), a noted ukiyo-e artist of the Utagawa school.
Asagao Monogatari is a popular late-Edo gesaku narrative, blending romance, dramatic storytelling, and contemporary urban culture. The expressive woodblock illustrations vividly reflect the aesthetic sensibilities of mid-19th century Edo publishing and make this work particularly appealing to collectors of ukiyo-e books and Japanese literary artifacts.
