Beautiful detailed bronze Thephanom sculpture, made of bronze, by unknown artist, mid-20th century, from Thailand. Thhepphanom (or Thephanom) is more commonly represented as a pair, brother and sister, kneeling on both knees with hands at the waist position (a customary greeting in Thailand), praying or showing respect. This is a standing Thephanom, making this sculpture even more unique than others alike. Thephanom first came to Earth when Buddha reached enlightenment. First Thephanom became Buddha’s protector, then guardians of religious temples and artifacts such as scrolls.
