THE MACALLAN EDITION Nº5 explores the role of exceptional oak casks in creating the natural colour of our whisky. Each colour, from the lightest oak to the deepest mahogany, across The Macallan portfolio is naturally derived from the interaction of the whisky with the oak casks in which it is matured. The process is managed carefully by our highly skilled whisky team, who select different casks to craft both the flavour and colour for each expression.
To celebrate the remarkable spectrum of natural colour found across our expressions, The Macallan collaborated with the Pantone Color Institute. After learning about the intricacies in the whisky making process from acorn to glass, the illustrious colour consultancy was inspired by the many tones that combine to create the rich colour of our single malt. Such complexity could only be articulated by a colour equally as multi-faceted. The result is a unique and bold shade of purple developed by Pantone exclusively to represent Edition Nº5, which reflects the infinite hues and mastery that go into crafting the natural colour of The Macallan.

Only American oak casks were used in the making of this extraordinary single malt. Casks were selected for their colour in order to deliver a whisky with a wonderfully full flavour. This unique whisky presents a beautiful pale amber colour that is accompanied by an intriguingly intense flavour profile that hosts sweet notes of caramel and fresh fruit combined with oak spices.

With a natural colour of sunlit barley, Edition Nº5 is a whisky created to challenge perceptions of colour by delivering an abundance of depth in flavour. Charming scents of vanilla and toffee merge with spices of oak, nutmeg and ginger, then the beautiful complexity continues by fusing hints of lemon basil and pear. A buttery caramel taste moves into sweet poached peaches and ripe pear. This vivid flavour is followed by a sweetness with light oak spices that linger with a rewarding finish.
