Ta maska twarzy jest potężnym i emblematicznym dziełem ludu Salampasu, znanych wojowników z prowincji obecnie nazywanej Kasai w Demokratycznej Republice Konga. Przedmiot wyróżnia się wypukłym czołem i energiczną, geometryczną konstrukcją – kluczowe cechy wojennej estetyki tej kultury. Pod oczami widać misternie rzeźbione scarifications, silne elementy tożsamości, które podkreślają intensywność spojrzenia. Całość została podkreślona piękną patyną noszenia, gładką i głęboką, świadczącą o jej centralnej roli podczas obrzędów inicjacyjnych społeczeństwa Mbugna. Description (English)

This facial mask is a powerful and emblematic work of the Salampasu people, renowned warriors from the Kasai province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The object is distinguished by a bulging forehead and a vigorous geometric structure, key characteristics of the warrior aesthetics of this culture. Finely carved scarifications are visible beneath the eyes, serving as strong identity markers that heighten the intensity of the gaze. The entire piece is enhanced by a lovely patina of wear, smooth and deep, bearing witness to its central role during the initiation rites of the Mbugna society. This mask perfectly embodies strength and determination, offering a striking sculptural presence.
