Shipped via UPS About the estate: La Pointe is among the most renowned estates in the Pomerol appellation. It owes its name to the vineyard's unique location in the far southwest of the appellation. La Pointe's reputation and its title of "château" are due less to its Directoire-style residence, built in the early 19th century by the Chaperon family from Libourne, than to the quality of its terroir. Here, one finds the famous iron-rich clay (also present in the soil of Petrus), which gives the wines sumptuous truffle aromas emblematic of great Pomerols. The Merlot and Cabernet (Franc and Sauvignon) vines cover 22 hectares of sandy-gravelly soil. They are on average 35 years old. After alcoholic fermentation in traditional vats, the wine is aged in oak barrels (35% new) for 15 to 18 months. About the wine: The wines produced develop aromas of ripe fruit, are supple, and medium-bodied. Successful vintages are full of charm and can be cellared for about ten years.
