Tramp - WE 100 World Receiver Radio Radio
Tramp WE-100 – World Receiver Radio
The Tramp WE-100 is a vintage portable multi-band radio receiver (also called a “world receiver”) that was manufactured around 1980–1983 and sold by HGS Photo + Electronic Vertriebs GmbH (Germany) under the Tramp brand. It was built in Poland, most likely by the Unitra/Eltra factory in Bydgoszcz and is similar in design to the Unitra Julia model.
What It Is
A transistor-based portable radio with superheterodyne circuitry and multiple band coverage, designed to receive international broadcasts.
Considered a classic world receiver from the late Cold War era.
Frequency Bands & Reception
Long wave (LW), Medium wave (MW/AM), Shortwave (SW) across several bands, and FM (UHF) reception — making it capable of picking up stations from around the world.
It includes a telescopic antenna for FM/SW and a built-in ferrite antenna for AM bands.
Features & Functionality
23 transistors and an integrated circuit provide its superheterodyne receiver design.
Radio can be powered by mains electricity or batteries (e.g., 8 × 1.5 V cells), giving it true portability.
It has front-panel tuning and band selection controls, plus a dial that shows frequencies for various bands.
Includes external speaker output and connectors for auxiliary equipment.
Analog meters for signal strength and battery condition help tune stations and monitor power.
Appearance & Build
Large, sturdy portable unit with a handle, telescopic antenna, and plastic case typical of world receivers of its generation.
This model tends to be heavier and larger than small handheld radios, closer to a desktop portable.
Era
Produced and marketed roughly early 1980s (circa 1980–1983) — a period when multi-band radios were popular for listening to international broadcasts before the rise of portable digital radios
