Abdullah at-Khadim - Qur'an. India - 1616

This illustrated leaf is from the Holy book scribed by Abdullah at-Khadim in AD1616. It is in good condition. The format is very typical of a Sultanate India Koran of the early period with expansive headings and large script in fine hand. In this case, there are three large headings in Muhaqqaq, dividing the two sections of scripture. Attractive marginals mark key chapter divisions. The leaf is from the Meccan Chapter 53, An-Najm (The Stara), v.32-35 which highlight Allah’s vast mercy and intimate knowledge of human nature, promising forgiveness to those who strive to avoid major sins and immoralities, despite committing minor lapses. It also cautions against self-righteousness, noting that God knows best who is truly pious, and rebukes those who ignore spiritual truths for temporary worldly gains. The verses emphasizes that Allah is fully aware of humans' weak nature from their creation, acknowledging that "misdemeanors" or minor faults may occur. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
