A fine collection of very different sizes and colours of thin disc beads made of Bakelite ( an phenolic resin). Originally produced in Bohemia ( Czech republic) in the 1950-70`s. Production was mainly directed towards the Ghanaian market. These waistbands were worn by young Ashanti-women during festivities and when dancing, these bundles of bands made a nice rattling sound. All bands were individully designed, depending on availability of certain colours and sizes. Presented here a 4 ropes with a mixed red/yellow design. (12 mm diam.) Three thicker bands are also presented here; one in a more pinkish tone; one in black and one in a reddish colour. (14 mm diam.). Furthermore two piles of mixed, loose discs are presented, made of ropes, which have broken. The largest discs are 20 mm wide. The yellow colours in these two piles are quite rare to find. Collected in Ghana in the late 1990`s. A nice collection for an interested bead-collector.!
