Glenfiddich Grand Cru debuted in autumn 2019, heralding the new prestigious “Grand” series, Glenfiddich's most prestigious series with unique finishes in casks from around the world. It was blended from distillates aged mainly in American oak barrels, with a small addition of sherry casks, and finished for about six months in cuvee casks – barrels made of French oak that were previously used to ferment the wine from which the champagne will be made. Glenfiddich does not disclose which Champagne producer supplied the barrels. At this stage, the vast majority of champagne makers use steel vats, with only a handful, such as Bollinger, Krug and Veuve Clicquot, consistently sticking to barrels, which add creamy and vanilla notes to their champagnes.
