The faint metallic rattling sound that had quietly resonated from within the movement suddenly ceases. Pull the same crown outward, rotate the inner alarm-setting disc, and designate your chosen time. When the hour hand reaches that precise moment, a hammer inside the movement strikes the resonating stick fixed to the case back, releasing a bold and vibrant metallic chime. That 15-second trajectory of sound is nothing less than the origin of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s alarm legacy. In 1956, with the development of the world’s first automatic alarm movement, Caliber 815, Jaeger-LeCoultre registered the name “Memovox” during its patent filing process. Yet the true foundation of that great name traces back to 1948, when LeCoultre introduced its first alarm movement, Caliber 489. From the first generation Cal. 489 to the second generation Cal. 814, the world known as the “Wrist Alarm” formed the spiritual origin of Memovox. Its activation sparked a global surge in alarm watch development, rivaling the pioneering work of Vulcain and outpacing competing ébauche makers. The name “Memovox,” now eternally spoken in horological history, cannot be told without the story of the Wrist Alarm. Naturally, the presence of Caliber 814 itself is breathtaking. Its bold two-thirds bridge architecture — driven not by decorative Jura tradition but by structural reasoning and practicality — reveals a beauty that leaves one speechless. The Present Example This particular piece radiates the restrained brilliance of solid gold while maintaining structural strength. Its teardrop lugs lend a noble elegance, elevating the entire aesthetic. Its story, however, lies in the British market. From approximately 1950 to 1960, British cases were supplied to Jaeger by De Travers, a British case manufacturer. This example bears the London import mark of the leopard’s head, alongside the British 9K solid gold hallmark “9.375,” and the 1957 import year letter “b.” At the time, very few British-specification examples were produced. Today, such pieces rarely surface on the market, making this an exceptionally rare offering. Condition Circa 1955 Vintage Men’s Daily rate: +15 seconds Amplitude: approx. 265° Beat error: 0.2 ms Lift angle: 52° (Measurements taken via timegrapher; values may vary depending on environment.) Fully original except for strap and buckle. Dial shows no signs of refinishing. Remarkable Original Condition Dial feet and underside inspected for authenticity. No refinishing traces. Second Generation Hand-Wound Alarm – “Memovox Wrist Alarm〝”
9K Solid Gold with Teardrop Lugs

Product Description

The very moment you wind the crown positioned at 2 o’clock, torque is applied to the alarm mainspring.

The Present Example

This particular piece radiates the restrained brilliance of solid gold while maintaining structural strength.
Its teardrop lugs lend a noble elegance, elevating the entire aesthetic.

Its story, however, lies in the British market.

From approximately 1950 to 1960, British cases were supplied to Jaeger by De Travers, a British case manufacturer.
This example bears the London import mark of the leopard’s head, alongside the British 9K solid gold hallmark “9.375,” and the 1957 import year letter “b.”

At the time, very few British-specification examples were produced.
Today, such pieces rarely surface on the market, making this an exceptionally rare offering.
