Mechanical automatic Buren caliber 1282
A wonderful vintage piece with a history related to Universal Geneve's micro-rotor mechanism:
Buren patented the first automatic watch movement (Grand Prix) with a micro-rotor in 1954. They later licensed this technology to companies such as Bulova and Hamilton. Universal Geneve filed a patent application in May 1955. The micro-rotor mechanism in the Polarouter series was almost identical in design to the Buren Intramatic. The neighbors won the patent infringement case and were forced to pay Buren royalties for every micro-rotor they used until the U.G. patents were granted. At this early stage, UG had to label their watches as "patent pending," and as a result of the dispute, they only received the actual patent on May 15, 1958.
