Presented for auction by Second Vintage

The Seiko Lord Marvel 36000 is a true milestone in Japanese horological history, celebrated as Seiko's very first high-beat timepiece. Housing the legendary Caliber 5740C, it brought a 36,000 vibration-per-hour escapement to the market, laying the groundwork for the precision that would later define the Grand Seiko and King Seiko lines. This particular example is highly sought after for its striking linen dial and elegant Arabic numerals, offering collectors a perfect blend of significant mechanical heritage and timeless mid-century aesthetic appeal.

Dial and Hands
The dial is a remarkable standout, presenting a beautiful horizontal and vertical linen texture that catches the light with dynamic elegance. It is adorned with applied black Arabic numerals that provide excellent contrast and legibility against the textured silver background. The printed black "SEIKO" logo, the "LORD MARVEL 36000" designation, and the Suwa factory emblem remain exceptionally crisp and fully intact, with the factory code "JAPAN 5740 -8030T" clearly visible at the bottom edge. The dial is remarkably clean, showing virtually no significant spots, moisture marks, or damage, retaining a fresh and highly attractive vintage presence. The original gold-tone dauphine hands feature a bold black central stripe, harmonizing perfectly with the numerals and exhibiting only light, age-consistent surface aging.

Case and Crystal
The 34mm gold-plated case features a classic, understated profile with elegantly faceted lugs. As is typical for vintage gold-plated timepieces that have been enjoyed over the decades, the case exhibits honest signs of wear. There are visible surface scratches and areas of plating loss or brassing, most notably along the sharp edges of the lugs and the bezel rim. The stainless steel screw-down caseback remains in excellent shape, with all factory engravings, including the "SGP BACK ST. STEEL 5740-8000 WATER RESISTANT" text, the Suwa logo, and the serial number 3D0510, remaining deep and clearly legible. The watch is fitted with a domed acrylic crystal that presents very clearly, offering an unobstructed and distortion-free view of the stunning dial beneath.

Movement
Inside beats the historically significant Seiko Caliber 5740C, a manual-wind movement renowned for its 36,000 bph high-beat escapement. The movement presents beautifully in the macro photography, visibly clean and well-maintained. The "SEIKO," "23 JEWELS," and "5740C" engravings are sharp and distinct across the brushed bridges, alongside the "JAPAN" stamping. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. Timegrapher results show a deviation of -34 to -37 seconds per day.

Strap
The watch is paired with a handsome black textured leather strap featuring a distinct scale pattern and contrasting yellow-orange stitching. It is secured by a gold-tone pin buckle that complements the tones of the case and hands.

Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial is exceptionally preserved and visually stunning, while the case displays honest, age-appropriate wear and plating loss that speaks to its authentic history as a worn and enjoyed timepiece.

Dimensions
Case Size: 34 mm (excluding the crown).

Remarks
Finding a Lord Marvel 36000 with a linen dial and Arabic numerals in such clean dial condition is a treat for any vintage Seiko enthusiast. The contrast between the intricate dial texture and the bold black markers gives this watch a sophisticated presence on the wrist, backed by one of the most important manual-wind calibers in Seiko's extensive archives.

History
Introduced in 1967, the Lord Marvel 36000 (Caliber 5740C) holds the prestigious title of being Seiko's first 10-beat-per-second watch. This technological leap allowed for greater stability and accuracy, proving Seiko's capability to mass-produce high-beat movements before the technology was fully integrated into the premium Grand Seiko and King Seiko ranges. It remains a foundational piece for collectors focused on the evolution of mechanical precision.
