Oldtidens Egypten Fajance Amulet - Ram-Head – Sen Periode (Ingen mindstepris)

Ancient Egyptian Faience Ram-Head Amulet – Late Period, c.664-332 BC Description An authentic ancient Egyptian faience amulet depicting the head of a ram, rendered in a compact sculptural form and pierced for suspension. The amulet displays a stylized ram head with rounded horn forms and a tapering neck. A perforation through the side allowed the piece to be worn on a cord or incorporated into a necklace. Traces of the original blue-turquoise glaze remain visible across the surface. This vibrant coloration is characteristic of Egyptian faience, a quartz-based material covered with a vitreous glaze that was widely used in ancient Egypt for amulets, jewelry, and small ritual objects. In Egyptian religious symbolism the ram represented divine power, protection, and fertility. The animal was particularly associated with important deities such as Amun, one of the chief gods of the Egyptian pantheon, and Khnum, the creator god who was believed to fashion humanity on a potter’s wheel. Ram-head amulets were worn as protective talismans, believed to convey strength and divine protection to the wearer. Material: Egyptian faience (glazed composition) Dimensions: Length: 17 mm Width: 12 mm Weight : 1.65 g Condition Very fine condition for type. Suspension hole intact Traces of original turquoise glaze preserved Minor mineral deposits and surface wear consistent with age and burial Please refer to photographs for full condition details. Provenance Ex private European collection established in the 1990s. A provenance document and declaration of legal origin are available in PDF format upon request. Collector Note: Faience amulets were among the most widely worn protective objects in ancient Egypt. The distinctive turquoise glaze symbolized regeneration, life, and rebirth, making these amulets both decorative and spiritually significant.
