Vikingetiden Ring med glas cabochon (Ingen mindstepris)

Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid. Viking era, bronze ring with a raised circular bezel set with a blue glass cabochon. The cabochon is secured by four projecting prongs arranged evenly around the setting. The hoop is thick and rounded with a slightly irregular surface, widening towards the bezel where it forms a robust setting. -> Rings with coloured glass or stone settings were popular personal ornaments during the Viking Age and early medieval period. Such rings were worn by both men and women and often imitated more valuable gemstone jewellery. The use of blue glass may have been intended to resemble turquoise or other prized stones. The overall form reflects practical craftsmanship typical of early medieval jewellery. Outside diameter: ± 19,1 mm Inside diameter: ± 15,8 - 16,2 mm Condition: Good condition. The blue glass insert remains present though showing surface wear. The bronze surface displays a stable brown patina with minor corrosion consistent with age. Certificate of Authenticity (PDF) is available upon request for all lots with a hammer price of €100 or higher. -> Rings of this type are commonly found across Northern Europe and Scandinavia and are generally dated to the Viking Age or early Medieval period.
