Vase - Keramik - Japan - Imai Masayuki(今井政之)

Stoneware vase by Masayuki Imai (今井政之, 1930–2012), featuring a sculptural shako (mantis shrimp) in high relief. The cylindrical form is finished in restrained earthy tones, allowing the dynamic modelling of the crustacean to create shadow and depth across the surface. The tactile texture and three-dimensional composition reflect Imai’s distinctive approach to contemporary Japanese ceramics, where clay is treated as a sculptural medium rather than mere vessel decoration. Signed “政之” on the base. Original wooden tomobako (signed box) included. Artist Profile Masayuki Imai (今井政之) (1930–2012) was a Japanese ceramic artist recognised for his bold relief compositions and sculptural surface treatment. Working primarily in stoneware, he developed a language that merged traditional clay techniques with a strong contemporary presence, emphasising material weight, depth and physicality. Condition Good condition. No visible cracks or restorations. Minor age-related surface marks consistent with handling and time. Dimensions Height: 31 cm Width: 15.2 cm Depth: 14.1 cm Shipping Due to its substantial size and weight (approximately 5 kg including secure protective packaging), international shipping costs are higher than for standard ceramic pieces. The item will be professionally packed with reinforced cushioning to ensure safe and secure delivery from Japan with tracking. ※Important Information – Please Read Before Bidding※ Customs duties, VAT, and import clearance fees are not included in the shipping cost and are the responsibility of the buyer.
