Middelalder Sølv Ring - med rød glas cabochon (Ingen mindstepris)

Medieval / Crusader Period Silver Ring with Red Glass Cabochon - 13th–15th Century AD Material: Silver ring set with a domed red glass cabochon Description: This authentic medieval silver ring features a prominent oval to rounded domed bezel set with a deep red translucent glass cabochon, a material widely used during the Crusader and late medieval periods as an accessible alternative to precious gemstones. The cabochon is secured within a robust, high-sided bezel with pronounced triangular claw-like projections, giving the setting a crown or battlement-like appearance. Surrounding the bezel is a decorative twisted rope-wire motif, a characteristic ornamental element found in medieval and Crusader-period silverwork. The shoulders are richly modeled with relief decoration, likely stylized floral or knot motifs, transitioning into a solid, slightly tapering band. The overall construction is sturdy and functional, reflecting jewelry intended for daily wear by soldiers, pilgrims, or local elites. Red glass stones in medieval jewelry were symbolically associated with protection, vitality, and divine favor, making such rings both ornamental and talismanic in nature. Historical Context: Silver rings of this type are commonly attributed to the Crusader states and the wider Eastern Mediterranean, where Western European, Byzantine, and Islamic artistic traditions merged. Similar rings are known from Crusader-era contexts in the Levant, Cyprus, and Southern Europe, dating between the 13th and 15th centuries AD. Such pieces were worn by Crusaders, pilgrims, merchants, and regional nobility, serving as personal adornment as well as protective amulets. Measurements: Weight: 7.71 g Inner diameter: 18.2 mm (approx. EU 57 / US 8) Stone: Domed red glass cabochon Bezel: Raised, crown-like setting with rope-wire decoration Condition: Very good medieval condition. The ring shows honest wear and a natural aged patina consistent with centuries of use. Minor surface irregularities and casting marks are present, as expected for the period. The glass cabochon remains firmly set. No modern polishing or restoration observed. Provenance: From an old European private collection, assembled in the late 1980s. A provenance statement and declaration of legal origin can be provided in PDF format upon request. Please note: The photographs are highly magnified to show detail. The ring appears even more attractive and harmonious in hand.
