Standing nude with nicely carved facial and body details, hands clasped on his chest.
Humbaba was the "doorkeeper" of the cedar forest where the gods lived, in the Gilgamesh myth. Raised by Utu, the Sun god, he was a very dangerous and fearsome monster, used as an amulet to ward off evil.

Provenance: Property of a London Gentleman, part of his family’s collection since 1970s. Acquired at a London auction.
