Tangonosekku 端午の節句(たんごのせっく)|Shukusanpo 粛粲寳(しゅくさんぽう)
Description:
The calligraphy in this work reads "爾受命長矣茀禄爾康矣" (Nanji mei o ukuru koto nagashi fukuroku nanji o yasunzu). It means "May you be blessed with a long, healthy, and happy life." In May, there is a custom called "Tango no Sekku" (Boy's Day) where people display "Koinobori" (carp streamers) to pray for the healthy growth of boys. This work depicts a lively carp. It is said that a carp climbs many waterfalls and eventually becomes a "Dragon," embodying the wish for children to grow up strong and resilient.
