Vase - Bronze - Japan - Takaoka Bronze Phoenix (Ingen mindstepris)

Artist: Zuiho (瑞峰), workshop production Material: Cast metal (special alloy) with green-based multicolored patinated finish Origin: Japan – Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture (attributed) Period: Late 20th century ⸻ Condition: Good to very good vintage condition. Minor surface wear and patina variation consistent with age. No cracks, repairs, or structural damage observed. No original wooden box included. ⸻ Description This striking decorative metal vase features a classical baluster form with a wide flared mouth and a solid raised foot, complemented by a pair of finely sculpted dragon-shaped handles attached at the neck. The handles are particularly expressive, with flowing, curved bodies, detailed scales, and stylized heads that convey movement and vitality. These dragon motifs are not merely ornamental but embody traditional symbolism of strength, protection, and authority in East Asian art. Encircling the body is an elaborate high-relief band depicting phoenix (鳳凰, Hōō) motifs intertwined with scrolling foliage and stylized patterns. The phoenix, a symbol of harmony, renewal, and auspicious fortune, contrasts beautifully with the dynamic dragons, creating a classic pairing that represents balance and prosperity. The surface is finished in a vivid green-dominant patina with subtle tonal variations ranging from turquoise to deep bronze. This coloration enhances the depth of the relief and gives the piece a vivid, almost jewel-like presence. Such bold, multi-layered patination is characteristic of decorative works produced in the Takaoka metalworking tradition during the late 20th century. The underside bears an impressed square seal reading “特殊新合金製 瑞峰作” (Special alloy, Zuiho), indicating manufacture by the Zuiho (瑞峰) workshop. This mark is commonly associated with decorative metalware produced within the Takaoka casting tradition. Although no original wooden box (tomobako) is included, the piece remains highly decorative and well preserved, suitable as both a functional vase and a sculptural display object. ⸻ Dimensions Vase (approx.): • Height: approx. 30 cm • Maximum diameter: approx. 20 cm • Mouth diameter: approx. 8 cm Weight • Approx. 1.9 kg (Please refer to the photographs for overall proportions.) ⸻ Shipping • Carefully packed and shipped with tracking. • International shipping via Japan Post or Yamato Transport. • Import duties, taxes, VAT, and any other charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check your country’s customs regulations before bidding.
