Decorated reed mat, handwoven, used by the Touareg of Mali as a floormat or as a wall-decoration in tents. These items are easy to transport on camels. Made of natural materials; reeds, leather and thin leather strips, interwoven into the reed setting. This leather is mostly goat-or camelleather. The designs are often symbolic patterns,, serving as a protection against negative energies. One side needs restauration. Dim.; 88 x 39 cm. Collected in Northern-Mali in the late 1990`s.
